Vitamin D deficiencies can effect your health more than you think

I am sure that everyone knows that we all need vitamin D for our bones and to stay strong and healthy. If not, then it wouldn't be a vitamin. But I have found other rather interesting reasons why you should look into how much vitamin D you are getting in your diet along with how much your children are consuming as well. Always remember to talk to your family doctor before adding any kind of supplement into your family's health practices. You need to be more safe now, rather than hurting in the end.
  • Vitamin D is needed for strong bones, we all know that, or at least we should. But now studies have been shown a lack of it can play a certain role in asthma, cancer, depression, heart disease and weight gain.
  • Vitamin D allows the body to absorb calcium. You own bones can become brittle and weak without it. Too little vitamin D in adults can lead to malformed bones and osteoporosis. In children, a vitamin D deficiency once caused many problems in the U.S. before they started fortifying the milk with this vitamin. By doing that, it virtually eliminated this disorder.
  • Low levels of vitamin D can have greater risks of heart disease and depression in older adults. There is a greater chance of asthma in children with low levels of the vitamin.
  • The body can produce vitamin D on its own with enough sun exposure. An estimated time of 15 to 30 minutes of skin exposure to the sun a few days a week. But the UV rays that stimulate vitamin D production also cause skin cancer. Most experts don't recommend getting vitamin D from the sun.
  • The darker the persons skin, the more difficult it is for them to get vitamin D from sunlight. Fair-skinned people can risk the 10 to 15 minutes to get enough sunlight but the problem is that unless you live in the south half of the U.S., there is usually not enough sunlight year around to produce all the vitamin D the body needs. So, that is where supplements comes in.
  • Vitamin D deficiency can effect adults, infants, children, and adolescents. If you don't eat foods like milk, salmon, eggs..(and other high vitamin D foods) your risk can go up. Most people don't notice symptoms from low vitamin D levels but other risk factors include obesity, digestive disorders like celiac disease, people over 50 and some medications
  • High blood pressure and low vitamin D levels can be deadly. People with hypertension and a vitamin D deficiency were twice as likely to have a cardiac event, in the observation study. The lack of vitamin D was not linked to cardiovascular problems in those with out hypertension.
  • Low levels of vitamin D can worsen the prognosis for women with beast cancer. Women low in vitamin D had a 94% greater chance of the cancer spreading. And also 73% greater chance of dying in the next 10 years. Other studies say good levels of vitamin D can offer protection against breast cancer.
  • Colon and prostate cancer can also be lowered by good vitamin D levels. But the thing is, is that it is more effective in people that are not overweight, stay healthy and exercise regularly.
  • One possible reason why vitamin D deficiency is linked with depression is that vitamin D causes the parathyroid gland to produce more hormone. Low levels of vitamin D and higher levels of the hormone have been linked with depression.
  • Most women gain weight after menopause until they reach there 60's. There is evidence that taking a vitamin D and calcium supplement may slow weight gain. One study show women not getting enough of the two nutrients at the start were 11% less likely to gain weight and more likely to stay the same or lose weight.
  • Children with good levels of vitamin D are less likely to develop type 1 diabetes. Also low levels of vitamin D are linked to more severe childhood asthma which leads to more visits to the hospital and more asthma medications.
  • A few good ways to get more vitamin D in your diet is starting your breakfast off with a full glass of milk or orange juice, some eggs or a good healthy cereal (there are some out there).
  • Other good choices that can up your vitamin D intake for lunch or dinner would be fish like mackerel, salmon, tuna, and sardines. One 3oz portion of cooked salmon can provide about 200% the recommended daily intake. Mushrooms that have also been exposed to UVB light can be around 100%.
  •  Vitamin D is available in two forms of supplements. D2 and D3. D3 is the kind the your body makes. In studies D3 can be 3 times more effective at raising the vitamin D level quickly and staying longer.
  • The amount of Vitamin D intake depends on your age and risk factors. The recommended dietary intake for adults up to 70 is 600 IU a day. For people 71 and older up to 800 IU is needed. Some need higher doses depending of health issues but too much can harm you.
  • Breast milk has multiple benefits for babies but vitamin D is not one of them. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all breast fed babies get a 400 IU a day of vitamin D supplement starting shortly after birth until he/she is drinking about 1000 IU of vitamin D though milk. 1,000 IU for babies up to 6 months old and 1,500 IU for babies 6 to 12 months old.
  • Children usually get there vitamin D through milk. At the 1st birthday the recommended dietary intake is 600 IU. Supplements are good but if there eating enough of the vitamin through food, then there not needed.
  • There is a upper limit of how much vitamin D can be taken a day. The Institute of medicine recommends up to 4.000 IU a day is safe. Taking more than 10,000 IU a day can cause kidney and tissue damage. The BEST way to know if to check with your health care provider before taking vitamin D supplements.

Why you are STILL tired

You hear people say it all the time (I know I do), in fact, you probably say it more times than you can remember. "I'm tired". But your not really sure why though. You caught up on your sleep the last few nights and haven't been over working yourself. It might even be blamed on being bored, or maybe that is why you are bored, because you are tired.

Below are four reasons that can cause your lack of energy.
  • Protein deficiency -- When you feel hungry, your body is in need of protein. One of the most important amino acid that your body depends on to build muscle and give you the right amount of energy for you to get through your day. A high protein breakfast of organic hemp hearts (they are THC free, if your worried) along with some veggies and/or some oats can give you the power for you to get through your day without feeling hungry a few hours later. Five tablespoons of hemp hearts is approximately 55g of protein. With that sprinkled on your morning breakfast, it is possible for you to keep hunger away for most of the day. It is also excellent for people who want to lose weight.

  • Poor nutrition -- Think about the food you ate today. Was it healthy or was it just something at a drive thru? Or maybe you just grabbed a bag of chips and a candy bar from the corner store along with maybe an energy drink. Chances are it probably wasn't good for you. The energy drink might help for a little while as a pick me up but you will soon start to feel the effects of the sugar and be in the same position as you were earlier. Or maybe even worse. That's whats wrong with the american diet today. Everything is processed and contains loads of sugar (which is my next cause) and not enough of the vitamins and minerals that the body needs to stay healthy and work at its best. Think about the saying "you are what you eat" and then try and figure out how your body can actually use that greasy burger and fries you ate earlier to give you energy. Doesn't work all that good, huh?..

  • Too much sugar -- When you eat a lot of sugar, it raises your blood sugar. When you blood sugar raises, your body releases insulin. And when your body releases insulin, your blood sugar drops. Which is why you can feel tired and out of energy. Besides that you crave even more bad foods. Ever feel like something is really getting on your nerves more than usual, that can be a side effect of sugar, such as anxiety and difficulty concentrating. Sugar can also lead to alcoholism, which can also be a reason one feels tired. Not to mention, which everyone knows, or at least I hope so.. sugar leads to obesity and tooth decay and also leads to premature aging.

  • Caffeine, drugs, & alcohol --They all in large amounts can completely exhaust the thyroid and the adrenal glands and make the liver and kidneys work overtime. The body is taking all the energy to detoxify itself and leaves nothing in reserve. Not to mention that they also dehydrate the body. Too much of caffeine can cause the jitters and that is something you don't want when your wanting to be productive. Sometimes when your having a drink (alcoholic) it may seen to pick your energy up a little. This goes back to what I said about sugar. Too much alcohol in your body, which causes what we know of as a hangover. We feel all sluggish the next day and don't even what to get out of bed. Your liver is what is working to get all that alcohol out of your body. So if your liver is in over drive from the fun you had last night, how is your body going to get up enough energy for you to get through your next day?
So the next time you feel like you need a pick me up, start off with a breakfast that contains a descent amount of organic protein and see how that can affect your overall energy for the day. For a during the day pick me up, reach for something that is also organic. There is a lot of things that you can find at your local health food store that can be a quick pick me up to keep you moving and block the tiredness from entering your body.

A Diet That Burns Fat At Its Source

I don't know about you but when I hear the word diet, I cringe. Everything from the nasty tasting foods to starving all the time and having to count calories, just makes you want to quit before you even get started. You might even lost a few pounds but to find out later that you just put them right back on. Even worse, they brought friends with them. That is the same thing that I thought before I ran into the solution that changed my view on how to lose weight.

So, what do you really know about weight loss? That you have to burn more calories than you consume, right? If that question was asked to any random person that doesn't know much about weight loss, that answer is probably going to be the most common. What if I told you that you don't have to keep counting calories and you don't have to starve anymore. The fact that you can eat fat and it will actually cause the body to burn stored fat. Yeah, that is true, but you have to eat the right kind of fat for that to happen. The kind of fat that I am talking about is good fat. The kind that you find in fish (not the fried kind), nuts, coconut oil (which is my favorite), and real butter. Not the kind that you see at the store that says taste like butter and good for you because it has less fat. I think not. Some other bad fats that you need to stay away from include hydrogenated oils, canola oil and margarine.

One of the biggest no nos that you need to stay away from is sugar. Processed foods contain a butt load of sugar and that can ruin your weight loss very fast. Let me tell you something about sugar. When you eat a lot of sugar, it raises your blood sugar. When your blood sugar raises, over the 120 mark, your body releases insulin. When this happens it causes your body to go into fat storing mode. Which is the number one thing you want to stay away from. When your body releases insulin, your blood sugar drops. That is the time where you feel hungry, start to get cravings for more of the foods that are bad for you, and makes you fatigue.

So, if I can't eat sugar and don't have to cut calories, what am I doing you ask. The answer to that is to eat the foods that put your body into fat burning mode. You need to eat the foods that burn fat instead of storing it. Yes, they do exist. And to name a few are fruits and veggies (greens can do wonderful things for the body), sprouted grains, rice, sweet potatoes and the list goes on.

Lets take a trip to the grocery store. How many foods can you find that say they are healthy for you? There are a lot of them. But are they really healthy? Unless they say organic on them, I have to look for myself. Lets just say you can't believe everything you see. Look at the nutritional facts on one of the healthy foods you like. How much sugar is in it? To be more specific, look at cereal, then remember what I said above about sugar. How many cereals do you know that claim they can help you loose weight? Yeah, my point exactly.

There is so much more information that is much of help. If I got you thinking then you really need to look into this. This women is awesome and her book in incredible. Did I mention that she is a certified nutritionist, exercise specialist, and helped over 30 thousand people with there weight loss? If that don't get you motivated, I don't know what will. This link will take you to Isabel's page. You really need to check this out if your desperately looking for a new way to get those pounds off. So many more foods and tips that can put your body into fat burning mode and start you off with the clean slate you need. The only question I have left for you to answer is, are you ready?

Is Neem A New Way Of Birth Control?

To answer that question, is neem a new way of birth control, the answer is no. Neem has been used by many people over in India for thousands of years. It is a safer, more effective and inexpensive way to keep unwanted pregnancies from happening. The neem tree has been through many tests over the years and has been proven to be as good as or even better than spermicides or birth control pills. Did I mention that neem can be used by women and men?

But how can it actually be used as a contraceptive? For women, a therapeutic amount of neem oil made into a cream is better and to use intravaginally before or after intercourse which has been found to be one of the best alternatives. The way neem works is that it doesn't change or alter the hormones in the body but rather acts as a spermicide and can kill the sperm within 30 seconds and says effective for four to five hours after application. Which is better than other spermicides that have to be reapplied ever hour or so.

Another benefit about neem you probably don't know is that neem is a very powerful anti-microbial. Which means that it can be effective against several sexual transmitted diseases. There are still studies being done on this but the results are looking really good.

The way that men can use neem as a form of contraceptive is the use of neem leaf oil or neem seed oil in capsule everyday for six weeks. After the six weeks they were just about 100% effective and can stay effective for as long as the capsule is taken. If the mind changes and wants a pregnancy, stop taking the capsule and in about the same time, six weeks, for the effect to wear off without any side effects. By taking these capsules men have reported that none of them had any loss of sperm production or lowered libido. The way neem works with men is it slows the action of the sperm so they can't reach the egg to fertilize it.

Mulberry Leaf Leads To Weight Loss In Norway

Yep, you read the title right. Mulberry leaf causes hundreds to lose weight in Norway. How? Mulberry leaf is known to lower blood sugar levels after a meal. When consuming the herb with a meal in two capsules, it causes you to crave less sugar. Which leads to lower insulin secretion which reduces fat storage and helps burn more stored fat from excess calories. Sugar simulates the brain and if you are wanting to stay thin, sugar is your worst enemy.

The owner of a health food store in Norway, Johnny, helped out a customer that asked him how they can eliminate sugar cravings. He gave them a box of New Nordic's Mulberry leaf tablets. When the blood sugar is stable, it reduces sugar cravings. Johnny recommends a program lasting for at least 10 days to eliminate sugar from ones diet. It had worked better than he had thought. Customers keep coming back and buying boxes of the stuff at a time.

There is now a product in the U.S. called Mulberry Zuccarin which was developed in Japan with mulberry farmers and botanical experts and a reputable Japanese university outside Tokyo. If you are looking to loose that extra weight and start eating healthier, I would do what Johnny said and start on the Mulberry leaf diet. You will start eating better and not even know it.

Man Made Medications Are Bad For The Body

Man made medications are evil. To put it simple. They cause more side effects than what they are treating in the first place. They just cover up what is wrong with you, making you think that they are doing this wonderful job inside your body. Only to find out later on that you have more things wrong with you, which in turn causes doctors to prescribe you more medications. It is a viscous circle. And they don't see anything wrong with it. Crazy huh?

Herbs on the other hand can do wonders for the body, mind, and spirit. They treat the problem, not cover it up. The beauty of herbs lies in their ability to help your own mind and body heal itself. A process that they naturally do most efficiently. A good quote from Voltaire is "The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease".

New to herbal remedies, not sure where to start? Go to a health food store and go to the tea section. Some stores sell herbs in bulk but if your new to the herbal world, start off with box herbs like Yogi. They are great. Find the one that best suites you and start drinking it everyday, or more if you choose to. Take note of any change you feel and find out what herbs are in the mixture. Do your research and you never know, you might actually enjoy it like I do.
